The Biggest Tech Challenge in the Restaurant Industry Today

Technology has changed the restaurant industry dramatically, but not without its share of growing pains. In my experience, the biggest tech challenge today is integration — especially when it comes to managing multiple platforms.

When I started offering online orders and third-party delivery, it felt like we were running five different systems at once. Each had its own dashboard, its own order flow, and syncing them with our kitchen team became chaotic. Orders got missed, wait times were wrong, and customers were frustrated.

The real issue is that most tech tools aren’t built to work together seamlessly. POS, online ordering apps, kitchen displays, and reservation tools often operate in silos. This fragmentation slows down service and creates confusion — especially during peak hours.

One thing that helped us was investing in a unified kitchen display system. Instead of juggling multiple platforms, everything came into one place. It reduced order errors, improved kitchen flow, and helped our staff focus on what really matters: the food and the guests.

The restaurant industry is hungry for tech, but unless these systems communicate better with each other, they can create more problems than they solve. Solving this integration challenge is the next big step for every restaurant trying to stay competitive in today’s digital age.
